Laura Carr, Public Relations
Laura Carr is a communications professional with nearly 30 years of experience in solving communications problems and enhancing organizational effectiveness. She develops and implements strategic public and community relations programs, marketing plans, community outreach, communication effectiveness studies, public awareness campaigns and special events. She has been a PR and marketing consultant since 1996 after an extensive tenure in the corporate arena. Laura has been associated with the Gilchrist Group team for nearly 10 years.
Her clients include corporations, small businesses, arts organizations and non-profits. An accomplished writer, Laura has developed strategic public and media relations plans; marketing plans; brochure copy; news and feature articles for publication in business magazines; newsletters, direct mail and speeches for senior level business executives as well as designed and delivered team and diversity management curricula.
Laura is the immediate past president and a current board member of The Public Relations Society of America, Cincinnati Chapter, serving as president 2008-09. She is a graduate of Leadership Cincinnati and the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati African American Leadership Development Program; serves on the Black Career Women Executive Committee and is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. She was recognized as a 2008 Greater Cincinnati Athena International Finalist for her professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting other women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.
She gives back to her community by working with the Greater Cincinnati Foundation Committee on Women and Girls, and the Young Scholars Scholarship program for Leading Women Inc.
She earned a Master of Arts degree in Management with a concentration in Team Development from Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio, a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, her certification in Corporate Community Relations from Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts and certification in grant writing from The Grantsmanship Center.
Laura is currently involved in providing public relations and community outreach support to the City of Cincinnati’s comprehensive development plan called PLAN CINCINNATI. She served as a co-chair for the Cincinnati PRSA National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Media Day and assisted in garnering national media coverage for the Freedom Center’s Grand Opening in 2004. She is a consultant to Downtown Cincinnati, Inc., The Center for Closing the Health Gap, Coca Cola Bottling Company, Cincinnati Police Department, The Wellness Community, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center and St. Aloysius Orphanage, among others. She has also worked with Citizen’s Committee on Youth for youth employment, Community Action Agency for Greater Cincinnati and Hamilton County and BorrowSmart, Public Education Foundation for homeowners. She is an advisor to the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati and the African American Chamber of Commerce.
